About Nassau

Nassau receives more cruise ship calls than any other port in the world. It sits under a day’s sail from every Florida homeport, which is why almost every three- and four-night sailing includes it, and why six large ships alongside at once is a normal Tuesday.

The port was substantially rebuilt and reopened in 2023, and the difference matters for a group. The terminal now opens directly onto Bay Street, so people can walk off, disperse into the town and come back independently — no shuttle, no taxi rank, no meeting point to negotiate.

The Queen’s Staircase is the town’s most-visited historic site: 66 steps cut down through solid limestone by enslaved labourers in the late 18th century, in a narrow shaded gorge leading up to Fort Fincastle. It is a ten-minute walk from Bay Street and a genuine climb.

Atlantis, across the bridge on Paradise Island, is the excursion most groups end up considering. Day passes to the Aquaventure water park and the aquarium are sold in limited numbers and sell out; buying through the cruise line is the reliable route. It is expensive, and for a large group it is the single biggest line item of the day.

Prince George Wharf takes six large ships at once. The rebuilt Nassau Cruise Port terminal, completed in 2023, opens straight onto Bay Street — no shuttle and no taxi needed to reach the town.

Access and mobility

The new terminal and Bay Street are flat and step-free — one of the easiest port days anywhere. The Queen’s Staircase is a steep stair climb. Junkanoo Beach has level access from the road.

Weather and when ships call

Warm and humid, 27–32°C in summer and 22–27°C in winter — cooler in January and February than the Caribbean proper. Hurricane season runs June to November.
